After 13 years as a partner with Szmanda Dental Center, dentist Tyler Glaser recently bought the center's Rothschild location and changed the name to Glaser Dental.
Glaser said he wanted to own his own clinic after years of bouncing each week among centers in Rib Mountain, Edgar and Rothschild. While he had the opportunity to meet all his patients, he said he felt as if he couldn't build the patient-doctor relationship he believes is important in dentistry. Taking over the Rothschild location, at 24 Brown Blvd., gives him the opportunity to work regularly with the same patients.
"I just felt the continuity of care wasn't there that I wanted, so I just decided it would be better if I stayed in one location to get to know the patients," said Glaser, who has practiced in the Wausau area since graduating from dental school nearly 15 years ago. "Now I can see my patients all the time -- before if they came to the office on a day I wasn't here, they would see a different dentist. This way I can provide a continuity of care."
Glaser also plans to build a new office at the location to expand and modernize the practice.
"Our biggest change will be updated technology. We're moving to digital x-rays, which will reduce radiation for patients and will also help the staff by digitizing patient records," Glaser said. "That way you can access the files digitally instead of having everything in a folder. You can have more information at your disposal."
Glaser said the new office will be twice the size of his current office.
"That will allow for more patient privacy and also staff comfort," he said. "Right now my office also serves as the staff lounge and changing area. We're pretty cramped."
Glaser will be the only dentist at the clinic, working along side two hygienists and an assistant. He'll handle all general dentistry, ranging from cleanings to extractions.
